Lies we teach to kids about the Reconstruction era

Attacks from the right on how teachers address issues of race are nothing new in this country, but we’ve seen a sharp escalation in recent months, with new laws in many Republican-led states that limit classroom conversations. Such measures generally bar educators from suggestions that the United States is a racist country and limit discussions about racism and oppression in the country’s past and present.
